Ask Your Own Australia Car Question

Hello there,

Major power loss in what way? misfiring? sluggish at low rpm?

Do you change the flywheel with the clutch change?

If you did, the noise sounds like in the gearbox.

Gary

yess i did change the fly wheel could it be due to old gearbox oil or
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
it does misfire and is slugish in low rpm
AU Auto Mechanic: Gary, Australia Car Mechanic replied 5 months ago

How many kms?

Spark plugs are how old?

How loud is this noise?

All insulation for around the gearshift is intact?

Could be worth a fluid change, plus an additive like Nulon.

its done about 168000 and the spark plugs seems fine to me when i checked, the noise is not there when the engine is cold but, the hotter the engine the louder it gets,
AU Auto Mechanic: Gary, Australia Car Mechanic replied 5 months ago

I would recommend an upper engine clean with Subaru or 3M product.

And possibly an off car injector clean.

I would change the oil in the transmission, and add the Nulon gearbox additive.

Worth a go, if yours has hot rollover noise. Some never go awaay though.

Hope this helps.

hey gary so how do use the upper engine cleaner
AU Auto Mechanic: Gary, Australia Car Mechanic replied 5 months ago

Effectively it is like using an oven cleaner.

Hot engine, spark plugs out, spray a bit into all cylinders cranking engine to wet the chambers, leave sit for 20 minutes, crank engine to purge excess, refit spark plugs.

Engine will blow smoke for about 10kms.

Subaru says to run engine on product through vacuum hose, but that way can be hit and miss.

If you do it the Subaru way, you MUST use a vacuum source at the throttle body.

what is cranking the engine
AU Auto Mechanic: Gary, Australia Car Mechanic replied 5 months ago

That means a short spin on the starter motor.

If you are not confident in doing this, I would recommend a professional.

Doesn't cost much, the benefit to the engine is worth it.

might aswell do it through vacuum hose
AU Auto Mechanic: Gary, Australia Car Mechanic replied 5 months ago

That should be ok.

Just follow the recommended procedure on the Subaru can.

The 3M product is near identical.

The AC Delco product is also very good value.

sorry with cranking the engine does it mean turning the key around and trying to start the car
AU Auto Mechanic: Gary, Australia Car Mechanic replied 5 months ago

Yes, that is how I do it with the spark plugs out.

Spray about 2 seconds worth in each plug hole and then spin the starter with the ignition key, same as trying to start engine, for about 1 second. That's enough to wet the chambers, then leave it sit to do it's job for about 20 mins, then spin the engine until the excess has been purged from the plug holes, then refit the spark plugs.

This is the long winded way, but does get a better result.

You can still do how Subaru recommends to do it on the can if you like.

apperantly spraying through the spark plugs it gets mixed with engine oil
AU Auto Mechanic: Gary, Australia Car Mechanic replied 5 months ago

You can do it any way you feel comfortable.

I've done this many times in both ways.

It does not mix with the engine oil, since we are only applying a small amount to each cylinder.

spinning the engine as in like trying to start te car or
AU Auto Mechanic: Gary, Australia Car Mechanic replied 5 months ago

I have already told you at 5.06pm how to do this, as mentioned above.

If you have trouble reading, then you might not be able to do this.

A workshop quote for a topend clean might be easier for you.

my english is not so good sorry m8
AU Auto Mechanic: Gary, Australia Car Mechanic replied 5 months ago

That's ok, I hope you understand as I have said above.

If a bit hard for you, a friend might be able to help you.

It would still be worth asking a workshop to do this for you.

You could damage the engine if overdosing occurs.

na did everything according but it doesnt blow out smoke thanks
AU Auto Mechanic: Gary, Australia Car Mechanic replied 5 months ago

Most cars do smoke after an upper cylinder clean with the Subaru product, some more than others.

I wish you well with this now.
