With the indicators on one way, can you just tap the hazard switch a bit, to see if they flash as you have the stalk?

Many cars the hazard switch is the cause of no indicators.

Just turned the indicators on in order to press hazard button and they are now working again.
AU Auto Mechanic: Gary, Australia Car Mechanic replied 11 months ago

Ok, so disturbing the hazard switch has made your indicators work again?

If so, replace the hazard switch.

Gary

No, started working before again before touching the hazard button.
AU Auto Mechanic: Gary, Australia Car Mechanic replied 11 months ago

Ok, so the indicators stopped working in either direction, then you checked the hazards

which work normally, and now the indicators work normally again?

Gary

The full sequence of events was, indicators stopped working in either direction, checked to see if Hazards worked as well and they didn't. Checked the indicator fuse and was fine so assumed it must be the flasher relay, Replaced the flasher relay and still, nothing worked. Checked all fuses and found the hazard fuse blown so replaced that, Hazards then worked but still not the indicators. Asked here as I was at a loss so went to check as you directed but they were already working.

Thanks for that info.

Do you have a towbar, and if so when was it used last?

Gary

when the indicators stopped

Ok, it sounds like there is a problem with your trailer.

While everything is working now, can you not use the trailer for a little while?

Could be worthwhile looking at the first part of the trailer harness for damage.

Does your trailer have LEDs or normal bulbs?

Gary

Ask Your Own Australia Car Question
Customer reply replied 11 months ago
Yep, won't be using it for a little bit. Will have a look at the trailer wiring.
The trailer I was towing has normal bulbs but I also have another trailer with LEDs.
Just to clarify, the indicators stopped working when the trailer was attached but still didn't work after it was detached, the trailer has since been towed a reasonable amount by another vehicle without issue.
There was a short in the trailer's lights in the past.
AU Auto Mechanic: Gary, Australia Car Mechanic replied 11 months ago

There could be a small intermittent fault in the trailer, and your Prado is more sensitive to tripping a fuse than the other car is.

Yes that is usually the case, when the a fault occurs, the fuse blows and the circuit does not work, even after the trailer is removed, until the fuse in the car is fixed.

Sounds like you have an idea of what's going on now.

Now to keep an eye on it.

Hope this helps.

Have a good day.

Kind regards

Gary
