Hi mate I'm a mechanic in Australia have a 2009 Sorrento. D4cb has just spun bearing on no1. Was slight hiccup checked all gauges no issues within 2 km started knocking vehicle serviced regularly. Oil and filter every 5000 km. Quality oil filters. Only done 147000 km. Is this a common issue. Not sure if it was timing chain tensioner clipping a valve and squashing bigend bearing. Or oil pump but oil light never came on. Started the vehicle one last time before strip down . Oil light went straight out but noise was obviously piston hitting head and rod slap. What can I do in rebuild too increase new engines life. Do u hear of this much with these engines.

It's a Sorrento bl ex limited. This happened last week. Had been no previous issues. Was highway cruising at 110kph. Pulled head off today timing chain was incredibly slack. And can pull no 1 piston up the bore about 3mm

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your EX yourself? What have you tried so far?

I'm doing full rebuild but want too know are there better quality parts available than genuine. Ie oil pump etc. yes I will be repairing as I'm a senior tech for ford.

Hello there,

A spun big end bearing is from lack of lubrication.

Generally happens as oil sludge blocks a passage between the adjacent main bearing, NO.1 main, and the NO.1 big end journal of the crankshaft.

Has the engine had that sort of service life ALL of it's life?

I've seen many cars that previous owner does not service correctly, then the trouble starts for the new owner.
