What model Toyota is it, they did not have V8s in 1997 so please provide some needed information, what year and model is it and which engine does it have and

what exactly is happening, does the starter not even turn the engine over?

Is there any noise when trying to start it or nothing?

Have you made sure the battery is good and the connections are tight on clean>?
