Engine light came on and loss of power to 120 diesel prado

Customer Question

Engine light came on and loss of power to 120 diesel prado 2007 auto when towing a caravan today out of Sydney. Had only been going 25 ks. Stopped vehicle turned it off waited a minute started again and drove to Port Macquarie 200 ks away. It lost power again at about 100 ks further up the road. Same thing stopped turned off restarted again. So far so good. Heading for Brisbane. Worried about doing any damage. Thanks RMcl

Hi Ray,

The first thing you need to do is scan the engine and trans computers, ECM and TCM for codes set.

Can you get this done at a workshop during your trip to Brisbane?

Does the vehicle have an auxiliary transmission cooler?

What size caravan are you towing, plus passengers and luggage etc?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
No it does not have a transmission cooler. The van is a Coromol 445 under 2.0 tonne. Well under weights.

Ok, hopefully not a big issue.

There will a code set in the ECM, so can we get that checked please?
