I am trying to program a new remote- not sure how to get

Customer Question

I am trying to program a new remote- not sure how to get into programming mode on my keyless entry... ignition doesn't turn at all
JA: Can you turn the steering wheel at all? And what about the key? Is it worn or damaged?
Customer: No- it just doesn't look like it is supposed to turn?? Steering wheel is fine. It is push button start- I had to remove a cover to expose the ignition
JA: What is the model/year of your Ford?
Customer: 2008 LV XR5
JA: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Looked at every programming option- Everything talks about turning the key in ignition to run 4-8 times... Intelligent system talks about the power door locks 3x but I dont understand that plus I a supposed to have 2 remotes but I only have one and trying to program the new one
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: not that I can think of

is this a Focus?

Page 68 of your owners manual says this, "

Programming unlocking mode (if equipped)

The unlocking mode (if equipped) on the remote entry transmitter can

be programmed. To change the unlocking mode from the single-door

unlocking mode to the central all-door unlocking mode:

• With the vehicle in the 2 (OFF) position, press the and on the

remote entry transmitter simultaneously and hold for 4 seconds. The

park/turn lamps will flash twice to indicate the mode change.

• Press the and on the remote entry transmitter simultaneously

and hold for 4 seconds to toggle between unlocking modes."

then page 70, "

How to reprogram your remote entry transmitters

You must have all remote entry transmitters (maximum of four)

available before beginning this procedure.

Note: Ensure the brake pedal is not

depressed during this sequence.

To reprogram the remote entry

1. Close all doors and fasten the driver’s seat belt to ensure conflicting

chimes do not sound during the procedure.

2. Put the key in the ignition.

3. Turn the key from the 2 (OFF) position to the 3 (ON) position.

4. Cycle four times rapidly (within six seconds) between the 2 (OFF)

and the 3 (ON) position. Note: The fourth turn must end in the 2 (OFF)

5. Within 20 seconds press any button on the remote entry transmitter.

Note: If more than 20 seconds have passed you will need to start the

procedure over again.

6. Repeat Step 5 to program each additional remote entry transmitter.

7. Turn the ignition to the 3 (ON) position after you have finished

programming all remote entry transmitters to exit programming mode."

The ignition doesn't turn- that was one of the points I made and why this is so frustrating!!!
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
It seems like it wasn't made to turn- just to put the key in. I had a new key made however unless it is inserted into the ignition, it wont pick it up within proximity!!

Explain to me how this works I can look it up but that would take longer.

Are you supposed to turn the key to run and then press a start button, is that how the engine normally starts and runs?

Expert:  heavy_chevy_396 replied 1 year ago.

Oh ok, let me ;look up if the key is supposed to turn or not.

Expert:  heavy_chevy_396 replied 1 year ago.

You never answered if this is a focus and was this made in Australia?

A Ford Focus Mk 2 ST ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I found this- the guy has the same issue as I have:
Expert:  heavy_chevy_396 replied 1 year ago.

I am going to have t contact customer service and find out why you are not receiving my questions, unless of course you are and for some reason you just refuse to answer me. Is this a Focus or not, this is the very last time I am going to ask.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Got your questions now... Yes- mk2 ST, Focus and not sure where built??
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Probably Australia however the indicators are on the left side so could be euro built
Expert:  heavy_chevy_396 replied 1 year ago.

At this point I am opting out, for some reason the text here is delayed, maybe cause you are in Australia, I don't know plus I have no repair manuals for this vehicle since it's a foreign Australian built car.

Hello and welcome to Justanswer!

Do you still need help?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
but I have a feeling I have to take the car and remote into a Ford dealer??
Expert:  sprinkles08 replied 1 year ago.

A scan tool is going to be necessary, whether it's done at a dealer or you can locate an independent shop with the necessary equipment.
