I have a 2009 Dodge Avenger 4-cyl 2.4 lite engine, 4 speed

Customer Question

I have a 2009 Dodge Avenger 4-cyl 2.4 lite engine, 4 speed auto, 125.000 klms (77,000 miles).
When coming to a gentle halt transmission does a harsh clunky downshift from 2nd to 1st gear. Problem is worst when cold, not so severe when hot.
Has happened previously but seems to have been cured by normal transmission servicing but not this time.
There are stories on Dodge forums about problems caused ny back flushing during servicing.
Other say the solenoid is the problem.
I thought of maybe completely reprogramming the control unit, doing an oil change (last one 15,000 miles ago) before spending any more money.
Any suggestions welcome.

Welcome I'm Chris aka Moose

Prior to going inside the transaxle to make repairs I suggest a fluid service, and add an additive like SMARTBLEND or LUBEGARD. Then have the trans shift strategy erased and the computer reprogrammed. If the concern persists then we need to do some diag on the valve body and solenoids. I do not believe its an internal issue with the clutches or bands.

I hate that you paid to get an answer but left, what appears to me, not satisfied.
