Cherokee Larado: I have a 2006 jeep Cherokee Larado 2.7

Customer Question

Hi I have a 2006 jeep Cherokee Larado 2.7 diesel that has just stared to make a rumbling noise and vibration through the steering wheel. It also makes a clunking noise when I turn the steering wheel either way. This came on all of a sudden. the diff.

Hi There,
First up, it reads like a wheel bearing has gone. This should be apparent with a 'grab & shake' test of both front wheels, &/or with an observer at the front wheels while the steering is operated.
Definitely something 'loose' there.
A bad CV or diff will not necessarily induce vibration - the issue is outboard of the CV most likely. Both hubs need dismantling. If one has gone, the other will need inspecting as well..
I hope this helps..

Have tried that and there is no play whatsoever in my wheel bearings.

Hi again,
Unfortunately that's about as much as I can offer. It's a process of elimination, starting outboard of the CV's, & with a thorough inspection of the steering. 'Play' may or may not be apparent with the vehicle on stands or a hoist, with the suspension at full travel.
There's nothing common regarding front end issues of this nature with this series Jeep..
