ford laser 2001 1.6 sedan - Issue 8/10 times last 6 months - driving 80-100 highway (normally for 30 mim or more and if traffic slows speed up down through gears and then just no power like no petrol and stops - leave for 10/15 min and starts -not overheating -garage 3 times can not locate under Diagnostics - appear as if sensor heats and like choke/air/ fuel and stops never smell petrol when trying to start again- happened few times 100k driving for hour/ half and slowing via off ramp 3rd gear and studder stops -like no fuel -try start 1000 idles then just fades stops or when power enaged same. I have to wait 10/15 min and all fine again Mechanic advised to keep log book - any ideas would assist as last week stop in roadworks on highway peak hour and caused massive traffic jam - any direction would be great
This is a really common fault. It's the crank angle sensor failing.
It doesn't come up under diagnostics because the makers of the car use this same circuit to turn the engine off - if it were to throw a code as we say it would do it every time the key was turned off.
The fix is to replace the crank angle sensor.
I think this is your one on ebay here

However call in at your local ford dealer and they will have one for sure - it's a 5 minute job to replace it.
Your mechanic should have known about this common fault.
