the valves have been replaced on my blue black 202 but tappets on some cylinders are noisy what is the correct way to set valve clearances it has had new cam and lifters fitted thanks mike mager

Usually lifter noise is due to wear from incorrect camshaft bedding in procedure .

The wear is caused from either to much idling or too higher rpm on a new cam/ lifter combo,

I always run my new cam's in by rubbing moly grease into the cam pores and the lifter pores and start engine and keep it running between 1500-2000rpm for the first hour with no idling time....

Do 5 mins on say 1500 then up to 1800 then 2000rpm in 5 min intervals and keep cycling for at least 45 mins...... most people only rec 15-20 mins however it is just not long enough

After the initial 1 hour run in period drive like granny for a week , you can accelerate hard but just don't rev it over 4500rpm for 1 week or you can knock a lobe off

after the week oil change and your flying

I would suggest removing your valve gear and lifters and inspect the lifters and cam lobes visually to see if there is any undue wear occurred in your break in procedure

If the lobes look ok and the lifter faces are still convex you may be able to have your rocker alloy pedestals ground slightly to reduce the clearance and add preload
