If the car is close by, can you go out to hit, and give the panel under and to the left of the steering column. I know it sounds weird, just try it, try to start it and get back to me.
Just to add to that, the ED is the boot/tailgate button 3 times in 5 seconds. The intructions they gave you were for ef onwards.

Yeah, the BCM, which controls the smartlock.
Continuous flashing means it is immobilised, if give the BCM a hit (they sufferend from dry soldered joints), and re-programming it didnt fix it, then the BCM may be had it or your ignition pickup could be faulty.
I have heard of the Key pickup being faulty, but most commonly its is the BCM.
You can try to get another one, there is a place down south that recons them, Injectronics , or you could try your luck with a wreckers. They are not hard to reprogram, simply a matter of leaving key in ignition and switched on for around 40 minutes, until door locks cycle.
