2006 audi s4 with camshaft actuator failure. What causes this to fail?

Mechanic's Assistant: Okay, I'll connect you to the mechanic to discuss this further with you. Before I do, is there anything else you want him to know?

I am just curious about the cause because I feel that perhaps a warranty part may be the cause

The most common reason for failure is dirt or debris getting into the actuator. That is why Audi and VW recommend the use of full synthetic oil.

An if full synthetic oil has always been used? The timing chain was replaced two years ago and it was not advised to change the actuators at that time, now there is an issue but is miraculously not anything to do with previously replaced parts and is only an issue of this actuator. Is it possible something done in timing chain replacement could cause this to fail later?
Audi Mechanic: Pete, Mechanic replied 4 months ago

I would have never have replaced the chain or chains on this engine without doing the actuators, tensioners and guides. The job is just to big ,and expensive, to take any chances. These engines are known for timing component faliure. The last one that I did had only 70,000 miles on it.
