I’m having only a p0030 code. Somewhere I read is that I may have a fault in the heated part of the downstream o2 sensor but I replaced it with a new one but have same result. I also read that it could be a relay or fuse for sensor but cannot find a location for such. Motor runs but starts up for a few minutes idling rough then smooths out after it warms up. It’s a 2001 Audi A4 B5 model.

Mechanic's Assistant: Have you located all of the vehicle's oxygen sensors? Are the wires leading to and from each intact and in good shape?

Yes i visually looked at both sensor connectors and they look good and pins look good

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the model/year of your Audi?

2001 A4 B5 model

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your A4 yourself? What have you tried so far?

Yes I’m working on it myself I pretty auto savvy. I’ve done practically anything mechanic on cars but get stumped on electrical part. I tried to ohm sensor on pins 1&2 to test o2 sensor and it read like 3 ohms so I took it that was good that was only on downstream o2

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

I did not ohm upstream o2 cause it had 6 pins and did not know which one to check that sensor is the original.

ok on the right kick panel by the floor , remove , there is a 6 pin connector (white in color)

take that connector apart and see if there is any corrosion in the connector .

then if ok you need to go from pin 3 of that connector to ground with a digital meter while the engine running and connector connected are you getting 12 volts there ?

let me know!!

thanks

Ok. I just drove it on road and pushed it a little hard and a new code popped up p0012 which I read can either be from car starting up rough idiling rough or vvt sensor stuck. But I believe it’s from a rough start up cause of downstream sensor fault
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
If you can, it would be beneficial to me if you could List a few action items to work on to discover the problem. That would help utilize my time between our dialogue.
Thanks

Ok I will, I never checked upstream voltage. Does the upstream o2 sensor have a heating element on it too?
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
I never replace upstream sensor
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Will there be a red wire 12 volt power lead coming from Ecu to connector for 02 sensor. If so what should it read 12 volts and how many amps should it be?
Audi Mechanic: Wolfgang, Audi master tech replied 4 months ago

sorry got real busy. yes there is a heater . should be 12 volts at pins 4 and 3 of the o2 sensor connector!!

Ask Your Own Audi Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Ok upstream o2 pin 3&4 only getting 2.3 volts.
Downstream on pins 3&4 only getting 0.42 volts
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Now downstream pins 1&2 are getting 3.26 voltsUpstream pins 5&6 are getting 2.56 voltsSo it needs to be showing 12 volts?
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
I ohmed upstream sensor on pins 1 &2 and is reading as open circuit. But I’m guessing Thant pins 1&2 are the heater wires for o2
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
It’s taking to long for your response if you are busy please send me to another Audi professional
Audi Mechanic: Wolfgang, Audi master tech replied 4 months ago
Ok should be 12 volts disconnected from the power wire of the connector to battery ground

Customer reply replied 4 months ago
could this be a bad relay since both 02 sensors are low volts. I haven’t a clue which relay it would be if that’s the problem. But still don’t know where that internal connector is you mentioned previously
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
I want my money back!!! You don’t answer!!! You haven’t really told me know more than what I already knew. I question if you are truly a Audi expert.
