Hi my name is ***** *****. I have a coolant leak and it seems like it is coming from the front of the motor. Do you where it is coming from and why
JA: Thanks. Can you give me any more details about your issue?
Customer: The coolant is leaking but i cant seem to locate exactly where it is coming from. I just see the leak coming from the front passenger side

hi im kevin what engine and model of car do you have ?and where is coolant dripping from ? any pictures
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I have a 2003 a4 1.8t. I took off the splash guard underneath and i see the leak on the front of the motor by the timing belt. I think that is by the water pump pulley i guess.
Expert:  Kevin replied 1 year ago.
correct if its the timing belt end there is only the water pump there so will be the pump leaking you will see coolant dripping around the crankshaft pulley area
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Does that mean i have to replace the water pump?
Expert:  Kevin replied 1 year ago.
correct you will need to replace timing belt at the same time as it has to be removed to change water pump
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
What caused it to start leaking?
Expert:  Kevin replied 1 year ago.
likely just age its not unusual to replace water pump there's a rubber seal around the outside and a seal on bearing both can leak no real cause jut wear and tear
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Is it easy to replace?
Expert:  Kevin replied 1 year ago.
its not the easiest job .have you replaced timing belts before?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Not on an audi.
Expert:  Kevin replied 1 year ago.
ok if you have done a timing belt before it shouldn't be too much of an issue its nuts and bolts just mark engine camshaft and crankshaft position with paint before removing belt .the workshop time is 2.2 hours
