I recently changed my timing belt and the check engine light

Customer Question

Hi Brian
I recently changed my timing belt and the check engine light is on (2.0T A4). The shop says that it should disappear (the light) in a few hundred miles. Is this right?

Hello and thank you for your question,

Unfortunately no that is not right, the check engine light comes on when the computer sees a system fault and when this happens a fault code and or codes is set. If the light is on then that means the computer is seeing something it dose not like. They need to scan the system and see what the fault code and or codes are that should be setting. As long as there is a problem the light will remain on.
