Audi A6 Quattro: 2002 Audi A6 Allroad - Automatic

This answer was rated:

My son's 2002 Audi A6 Allroad - Automatic , makes a loud clicking noise when he tries to put it in gear from Park. the car was running just fine, he stopped at his house, went in for about 45 min. came back out and could not get it out of park, makes a very loud clicking noise. is in Cheyenne, WY. cold and windy weather.

It sounds like maybe the Park Lock Solenoid may be sticking. You can try a couple things, first try turning the key slightly on, but not enough for the dash lights to come on, and then see if you can push the button on the shifter and move it to the Neutral position, which will also allow it to start, and then see if it can be moved from there normally. You may also want to just try moving the shifter lever forward to release tension (maybe the car is on a hill?) and see if that is binding up the solenoid, and if it will release then.
