1999 Audi A6 Quattro: intermittent..the climate control ran fine

1999 Audi A6 Quattro, I...
1999 Audi A6 Quattro, I have been trying to diagnose a climate control probelm. Operation is intermittent. I disconnected the battery two weeks ago to perform other work, and the climate control ran fine when the car was restarted, for a week. Now intermittent, more not working than working. Tried the DTC climate control analysis. The first code up on the display is 22 01, which I think means that the A/C Refrigerant high pressure switch is picked up (F 118). However C01 of the DTC climate control shows 0 54 and 0 00, switching back and forth. I can't find a troube code for 0 54. Intermittent operation means no fans, auto or manual, no heat and no A/C. Any help you can offer diagnosing the problem would be helpful. Thanks Bud

Press and hold the recirculation button. Then press the temperature up ("+") button to switch between degrees Celsius & Fahrenheit on the Climate Control Temperature and Instrument Panel Outside Temperature displays.

Jeffrey590, I have a second Audi, 1998, same climate control system, and the first code up on the display when entering the diagnostics is 0 00. Which I believe is telling me that all is wel, (which it is in that car). I am therefore assuming that my problem is really the 22 01 code that I am seeing in the car with the issues. Does that make sense? Can the system be shutdown because of the cycle position of the high pressure switch, code 22?

The high pressure switch signal can shut down the COMPRESSOR in the system; but if the FAN is cutting out on you I would suspect another problem...Hopefully you tried the reboot I suggeted...Also since you say both vehicles have the same system,you can try swapping control heads and see if that has any effect...That way you will eliminate the head as a suspected problem...jeffrey590

I tried the reboot, disconnected the battery for 20 minutes. Still not functioning, but the first diagnostic-on code is now 1 10. Do you think that could be the regulator flap, code 10 in the list above? It has to be something that also prevents manual operation of the fans. The display shows full fan speed, in auto or manual, but the fan doesn't run. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

sounds like the blower motor or the fan control unit...you will have to access the fan assy and see if you are missing ground or +12v...jeffrey590
