I’m looking to ask...

I’m looking to ask a question about valuing paintings I was given by a family member several years ago. I am considering selling them to cover medical bills, but google is conflicting if they have any value or how to even tell if some of them are originals as opposed to prints.

Expert's Assistant: I always love having an appraiser look at my stuff. Sometimes its turned out to be surprisingly valuable. Is there anything else the Antiques Appraiser should be aware of?

I’m not sure what they’d need to know honestly. They are all framed professionally so I can’t examine the paper itself.

I was given two professionally framed 11x16 ish size watercolor paintings by my great aunt. They are signed Cecile Johnson. Honestly, I can’t tell if they are prints or originals and google does not yield any results when I search the names (“Rome in Spring” and “Spanish Steps, Rome) but there are clear signatures in the bottom left corner.The same aunt also left me four smaller watercolors of Paris with ITA listed as the artist and typewritten info cards on the back. Lastly there is a large oil painting of an arch in Paris signed Burnett.I’m not sure what other info you’d need nor am I sure what to do with these. Thus, I’m here! Sorry my first message wasn’t very detailed, I didn’t understand the format/process.

Your Cecile Johnson pictures are prints unfortunately, in the close up photo I could zoom in and see dots that make up the picture. This was done through the offset printing process where a photo was taken of an original painting then printed much like a newspaper or magazine.Value $80-100 each. Your ITA pictures are engravings as I can see the impression that the plate left in the paper Value $30-50 each.Your Burnett painting was done by an unlisted artist which is not unusual set the Parisian scenes are sold to tourists and decorators Value $100-150.

Good Selling Venues are Ioffer.com, Etsy.com, eBay, and Chairish.com. Good local online classified Sites where Buyers Pickup directly from you are; Offerup.com, etgo.com and Facebook Local Garage Sale.You can consign to local Auction House and search invaluable.com, liveauctioneers.com, or auctionzip.com
