Would like to know the value of a Karl Feng print, double signed, number 1/1000. It's approx 16" x 40", gold framed, of small birds on the ground under bamboo and in the tree. I'm a first time user so will offer the average price of $30.

Can you tell me what you mean double signed?

Hi Glenda, Double signing is a common habit by artists to enhance the value of the print, especially the first print. The first signature in this case may be printed and includes the stamp of the chinese symbol for Feng, then is also signed in ink on the right side.

I am confused that my question was directed to antiques people since this is a living artist and the print is not an antique.

As to Angela's question, I am willing to wait.

Good Morning

I am very much aware of what Double Signing means, I was inquiring about the double signature to find out if the artist signed the piece in the original plate, and then on the work. If the one signature was printed then signed below that ? I am aware this is common place. There are times that artist 's have actually signed two different hand signed signatures as well. There are quite few ways to people refer to double signed, so that is why I was inquiring about this, to clarify exactly what kind of double signature it had. To no enquire about this would be irresponsible on my part.

And as far as this coming to the Antiques Category, there is no specific Art Category on the site and all the appraisers in Antiques and Appraisals are qualified to do art. I am aware this is a living artist, I am familiar with the artist.

I am going to opt out of this and maybe one of the other appraisers will be able to provide you the information you are seeking.

Joyce,
I've been through the auction records for the past 5 years, as well as the records from resale sites like RubyLane. Double signed and numbered Karl Feng prints, with a low edition number but from a large edition (1000 is a large edition), nicely framed, resell in the range of $20.00 to $70.00.

There are quite a lot of records, but unfortunately no resale prices have exceeded that range.

A dealer, at retail, would likely charge $50.00 for the print plus the cost of brand-new framing, which can range from $100.00 to $500.00 depending on framing quality.

I'm sorry if this wasn't the value you were looking for, but even original watercolors by Feng aren't doing well these days.
