Are you having issues with your dishwasher draining?

There are several reasons that the dishwasher will not drain.

• First, there could be a blockage in the filter or the hose.

• Some dishwashers drain hoses have a check valve to remove from the end of the hose.

• The dishwasher drain connects to the garbage disposal. Ensure there has been proper removal of the plug.

• Configuring the drain hose by the manufacturer's directions is necessary. The drain hose should come through the cabinet very high to prevent the sink from backing up in the dishwasher.

• Regular dish soap residue can cause blockages too. Suppose you see suds in the water in the dishwasher. The suds could be related to the drain pump's blockage or a drain pump's failure.

• When water has not drained from the dishwasher, start a cycle, then cancel and allow it to complete. Do not remove the filter unless there is no water in the dishwasher. For example, suppose there is debris in the undrained water in the dishwasher. Removing the filter may allow the trash to get into the pump and damage or restrict it.

• When you start a cycle, cancel it and enable the cancel to complete (about 2 minutes); that should drain the water and allow you to clean the filter out without letting any debris get past it.

• Otherwise, the issue may be a broken impeller on the drain pump or a failed drain pump that needs replacing.
