Customer Question

We have the induction cooktop and it is short circuiting our breaker. What could be the cause?
JA: What's the brand and model of your cooktop? How old is it?
Customer: JEC8536ADS
JA: How long has this been going on with your cooktop? What have you tried so far?
Customer: purchased about ten years ago it just started today, we put water to boil about ten minutes later the breaker went off so we reset it then we tried to turn it back on and it popped
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: no I think that covers it all

Okay with this being an induction cooktop the only thing that can cause this issue is the control boards on the inside. I am sure that if it is popping a breaker that it has more than likely arked on one of those boards leaving a tell tell sign to replace me. Just need to locate which board has failed

Was a burner being used when this happened
Customer: replied 17 days ago.
Yes
Expert:  Billy Olenick replied 17 days ago.
Was it the big burner
Customer: replied 17 days ago.
No the middle one
Expert:  Billy Olenick replied 17 days ago.
Okay
Expert:  Billy Olenick replied 17 days ago.
We just need access to the guts so we can trace the short. Something shorted and I suspect after reviewing your model number that it will be an element
Expert:  Billy Olenick replied 17 days ago.
Do you have a voltage meter
Customer: replied 17 days ago.
I we don't have a voltage meter
Customer: replied 17 days ago.
*no
Expert:  Billy Olenick replied 17 days ago.
You might need one to figure out this repair unless the unit is obvious with what is shorted

Okay what happened is the infinite switch shorted out. You might try to unhook the wires going to the switch to see if the harness is salvageable. If not the harness plus infinite switch will need to be replaced
Customer: replied 17 days ago.
How do I unhook it?

If the breaker is off you can just pull on those connectors to remove it
Expert:  Billy Olenick replied 17 days ago.
The wire harness is no longer available so if wires are bad you will need to re wire the bad spots
Customer: replied 17 days ago.
Which one is the harness?
Expert:  Billy Olenick replied 17 days ago.
Every wire that is attached to the switch that is burnt
Customer: replied 17 days ago.
I'm not understanding your instruction
Customer: replied 17 days ago.
Can you send me the picture of what I am supposed to disconnect now?

Customer: replied 17 days ago.
Are you there?
Expert:  Billy Olenick replied 17 days ago.
Yes if the wires are fine then I recommend just replacing the infinite switch

Hello are you there?
Expert:  Billy Olenick replied 16 days ago.
I am here
Customer: replied 16 days ago.
Thank you! I received the replacement part and hooked everything back up
Customer: replied 16 days ago.
We turned the breaker back on but now it won't power up
Customer: replied 16 days ago.
I'm getting a voltage meter to check the connection, anything else I should check for?
Expert:  Billy Olenick replied 16 days ago.
The terminal block where the wires first come in is where I would start to check for voltage. I believe that the black wire is where you are losing the voltage
