I have a whirlpool...

I have a whirlpool French door with bottom freezer, model #GX5FHDXVQ00 , 5 years old. I feel air blowing in both Fridge and Freezer, but neither will get colder than 44 degrees. Cleaned dust from coils; actuator door works in fridge section. Freezer doesn't get cold enough to freeze, so I don't see an Ice jam.

Contractor's Assistant: How long has this been going on with your Whirlpool freezer? What have you tried so far?

Saw frost on some frozen food cartons for about a week, ice maker showed signs of thaw (cubes stuck together) -- but everything was frozen solid till yesterday. Fridge doesn't seem to be getting as cold as it should, even on highest setting. Thermometers in both section read 44-49 degrees.

Contractor's Assistant: Anything else we should know to help you best?

I hear clicks, like a relay coming on. It sound like the compressor is running. Fan in the back (behind) the fridge seemed to be running

Are the clicks from the compressor, can you tell?

It's just a one-time click, like a relay, then the compressor sounds like it's coming on.

So no frost built up on back freezer wall now, inside the freezer?
Can you pull the refrigerator out to actually feel the compressor to see that it is running?

Thanks. I am getting cold air, just not cold enough. I think there is a cover on the back covering the compressor. I'll pull it out in the morning. Will I get you as the technician, or is it random?

If you find the compressor is running yet it is only getting to about 44* F, the sealed refrigeration system is failing. It may be a low refrigerant level or other issue. IN any case, the repair will require professional service as it calls for very specialized equipment and training. This type of repair could be expected to cost about $400-500 + parts to have professionally completed. If the compressor is found to be shutting off or otherwise not running, please let me know! :)

I left the fridge running all night undisturbed at the coldest settings, and both the fridge and freezer show the temperature rise to 50 degrees. I think your assessment that the sealed system has lost refrigerant is correct. Thanks for your help but I don't think I'll be repairing this refrigerator.
