I have a ge lw18jyvlw-1 refrigerator. I just moved it and now the freezer does not work.

Contractor's Assistant: Can you guesstimate how old your GE is? And just to clarify, what's the exact model?

It's older. I bought it used.

Contractor's Assistant: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?

If it's an easy fix.

Contractor's Assistant: Anything else we should know to help you best?

That's it. Freezer is warm. Fridge area is cool.

OK the unit is likely running low on freon, check and make sure the condenser is clean. If it is then remove the back panel inside the freezer section and check the evaporator coil. If only part of it is frosted and not the whole thing, the rest being bare aluminum then you have a freon leak. If that is the case the fix is too expensive for the unit and I would start looking for a new one. Note the refrigerator section often will maintain temps still because there is enough freon to get to 37 degreees, but not enough to get to 0 degrees. Check that out and see what you find and get back to me!

Could the coils be outside, on the back of the fridge?

There are behind underneath behind the lower panel in back of the unit.

There is no back panel on the inside of my freezer. There are coils on the back of my unit. What else could it be if not a Freon leak?

The freezer froze the glass of water I put in there as a test. I am waiting to see if it continues working or if there's an intermittent issue. Definitely not the Freon.

But you didn't assist me... the freezer started working on its own. You suggested maybe a Freon leak that couldn't be repaired. The issue may or may not be resolved. If the freezer stops working again we know we haven't determined the real issue and can continue trouble shooting. Will check back in about lunch.
