JA: Can you guesstimate how old your Whirlpool is? And just to clarify, what's the exact model?
Customer: I don't know.. It came with the apt I am renting
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: I think it may be about 5 to 10 years old
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: Well I do see some frost in the freezer..

This is going to require parts and disassembly or you can get it back to cooling okay temporarily to call the landlord. How would like to proceed?

I do not wish to proceed with disassembly.. I was hoping it would be something reasonable I could do myself

You can get it cooling again by opening the doors for 24 hours with it unplugged. It will cool fine for about 5-7 days until it frosts up again. That will be enough time to contact landlords to get it repaired.
