installing a new kitchen aid cooktop 36" induction in a cabinet where there was a cooktop before. the opening is the correct depth but is 1 and 3/4 in. wider than required. (34 1/4"). How important are the metal side brackets? Is it OK to rest cooktop on the cooktop glass?
JA: Can you guesstimate how old your KitchenAid is? And just to clarify, what's the exact model?
Customer: this is a new cooktop KICU569XBL
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: Yes except for the electrical hook up
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?

Do not support the cook top by the glass edges, it will break the glass. You will need to install a small wood strip to the side(s) to properly support the cook top on the edges designed to support it.
