Can I please have the Full model number of the unit to better assist you ?
Have you tried using a hair dryer to heat the rubber gasket material to soften it ?
This will allow the magnet inside the gasket to reform to the refrigerator cabinet when the door is closed to create a good seal.

I recommend across the top, so that will be fine .
And just make sure that once you open the door about 1/4 of the way open and let go of the door that it will travel closed on it`s own
