IT is not the timer and not the door switch either
Expert:  Tom Goellner replied 8 months ago.

If it is 30 years old . Take the back off , set the timer to spin and observe what is happening. It will have a motor and on top of that is a clutch, and a funny looking rubber coupling that attaches to lthe bottom of the pump. There is also a belt from the motor to the transmission. You could remove the belt to the transmission and see if the motor continues to run which means the transmission is too hard for the motor to turn it and the motor cuts out , or the belt is in such bad shape it is the problem. If the motor works OK while agitating the motor is not defective.
