Customer Question

My KitchenAid refrigerator KBFS22EWWH2 will not go into defrost mode.
JA: Can you guesstimate how old your KitchenAid is? And just to clarify, what's the exact model?
Customer: six years old already gave model. French door with bottom freezer
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: yes
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: nope just won't go into defrost mode. I've manually defrosted the freezer and the refrigerator stayed cold for 3 days. Now it is warming up again.

When you defrosted it, did you test the heater and defrost sensor?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
How do you test them?
Expert:  Kelly replied 10 months ago.

You can measure for continuity but the thermostat must be cold to test accurately. It is best to test those parts because there is no real definitive test for the electronic control. If both of those mechanical parts test good, process of elimination would suggest the control is faulty.

What would the control be?
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
What does the control do? Where is it located?
Expert:  Kelly replied 10 months ago.

The control, which I suspect it likely to be the faulty part, is mounted behind the part where you press to adjust temperatures. It is where the display is and it controls every function in the refrigerator.

Actually, on that model, it is mounted down by the compressor, number 35 at the link below.
