Is the compressor running, can you tell? How about the fan in the freezer?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
My husband says the compressor is running
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
How would I tell about the freezer fan
Expert:  Kelly replied 11 months ago.

Okay, and the freezer is not cooling at all? The fan should be easy to hear when the freezer is opened.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
it's running
Expert:  Kelly replied 11 months ago.

Thank you. The freezer is not cooling at all now, even though the fan and compressor are both running?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Well it does seem like it's trying I do feel a little coolness but my food is not frozen at all
Expert:  Kelly replied 11 months ago.

Is there frost on the back wall inside the freezer?

May I please have your model number so I am able to provide you with accurate, model specific information?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
No frost where would I find the model number?
Expert:  Kelly replied 11 months ago.

The tag should be in the fresh food section, either on the ceiling or high on a side wall.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Ok got it

Are you able to remove the rear panel from the compressor area? If so, look behind the compressor for a copper tube that is running through the plastic drip pan. Is that copper tube all green?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
We can't pull the frig out
Expert:  Kelly replied 11 months ago.

Okay, well there are two scenarios, neither one is real good.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Ok what are they?
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
What's the life span of this model?
Expert:  Kelly replied 11 months ago.

Either there is a leak in the sealed system (usually at that copper line I mentioned) or the compressor was damaged during the power issue (probably low voltage). Both scenarios will require professional service as they involve special equipment and training. You can expect the cost to be about $350 + parts. If the compressor is in need of replacement, that will run about $350 in parts. Expected life is about 8 years.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
What if I turn the whole thing off and then on????
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Should I just buy a new frig or try to get it repaired? What would you do?
Expert:  Kelly replied 11 months ago.

If you are certain the compressor is running and the fan in the freezer is running, it is not going to help. If the compressor is faulty, I would replace the refrigerator.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Bummer......ok thanks so much for all your help I'll figure it out! Pat
