My Maytag A 5000 heavy duty / large capacity clothes washer

Customer Question

My Maytag A 5000 heavy duty / large capacity clothes washer stopped running today.
I've tried multiple setting on the timer dial and the only place that the machine starts is during the spin cycle of the final rinse.
The power to the machine is good and the cord looks good.
The machine is about 20 years old and has never needed a service call or failed in any way. It's in a closet inside the house and looks almost new.
Any ideas? Also if it's something like the timer, which I found at $132.00 should I just be looking for a new washer instead of trying to repair this one?
