Have a bottom freezer GE fridge. Refrige stops cooling due

Have a bottom freezer GE fridge. Refrige stops cooling due to ice buildup to the point of cooling fan stops because of ice buildup. I Thaw out refrigerator, then put back together. It cools properly for about 3 days, then Ice builds up till fan gets jambed on ice buildup again. Is there a thawing switch somewhere that may have gone out?
