My 25 year old whirlpool gas dryer won't start or stay on

Customer Question

My 25 year old whirlpool gas dryer won't start or stay on unless I twist and hold the timer
knob. What can I do?

If you can twist the timer and hold the knob to get it working, you just have a poor contact inside the timer and the timer will need to be replaced. Now the timer is no longer made since this dryer is so old I'm sorry to say so you can try to remove the timer and take it apart to see if you can sand or bend one of the contacts slightly to make better contact, but if you're not good with electronics I might have a technician do this because there is no replacement if you break the part completely.
