I turned the knob on my GE dryer from cotton to easy care.

Customer Question

I turned the knob on my GE dryer from cotton to easy care. Now a noise is coming from the back of the dryer. What did I tear up?

The dryer was running when I changed heat settings.

This is just a coincidence. There is a drum bearing that has worn down and needs to be replaced. Any local appliance parts house will have a kit to fix this that contains several wearable parts and there are many videos on youtube that show exactly how to take the dryer apart to do it. There is an axle screwed to the drum and it may or may not need to be replaced, so buy the kit that has all the parts that you may need to avoid wasting time once you take this apart.
