We have a whirlpool refer model #gx2fhdxvq06 - side by side freezer below. Water collects below and freezes into a quarter inch sheet that break up and throw out.
What is that from, and can we stop it.

hello, it just fills that bottom indent in the bottom of the freezer section ,,its hard ice correct? thx Randy

that is a plugged freezer drain , at the rear of the fridge if you remove the compressor cover on the bottom ,in between the fan on the left anfd compressor on the right is a tube that comes down from ceiling ,there is a rubber grommet on the end of that peel that off and cut the lips of that grommet so that it cannot stick together ,reassemble and then all you need to do is get rid of the existing water in the trough ,inside the freezer , not just the ice on the bottom ..idealy if you can thaw the freezer for 24 hours would be the best ,otherwise you need to disassemble the complete freezer section which is a bit of work
