Customer Question

We have a Kitchen Aid Model Number KTRS22QDQH01. We have had two repairmen in that thought that there were no parts available for our fridge because it was 18 years old. The one serviceman thought that it had to do with getting stuck in a defrost cycle. Sometimes it runs fine and then sometimes we open the freezer and it is not running with things starting to thaw. Then we open the refrigerator door and tap on the underneath part of the freezer (or the top part of the refrigerator compartment) and then the motor will start up. We think that the defrost timer kit needs to be replaced. Correct? If not, what else do you think that we can do to help repair our unit. We love it and it does not even compare to new models that we have looked at.

Hello, this is Dave. There are two components in the control box that can keep it from running. Either the timer or the thermostat. The timer is most likely the problem. The parts list does say the thermostat is no longer available but if needed there may be an alternative. Here is a way to help determine if it is the timer. Instead of tapping on the control box, take a screwdriver and insert it into the hole between the two screw heads and turn the plastic slot a bit clockwise. If it starts to run it is a good possibility that the timer is all you need. The timer number is(###) ###-####
