My KitchenAid refridgerator Model KBF522EWMS3 has been

Customer Question

My KitchenAid refridgerator Model KBF522EWMS3 has been leaking. I have had it approximately 4 years, and from the beginning there has periodically formed a sheet of ice which we have had to remove. Also, there have been puddles on the floor on the right side of the refridgerator. More recently, the leak seems now to have enlarged and the floor has been compromised, etc. My husband turned off the water to the icemaker which he believes will stop the leaking. I want my icemaker, and I need to solve this problem. Can you help me? Barbara Knipe

How long has the icemaker been turned off ?

And did it in fact stop the leak?

And this ice was in on the floor of the freezer area?

Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Icemaker has been turned off for 6 weeks. My husband says he 2 days ago turned it back on to see if he could get it to make ice again. Regarding whether or not turning it off stopped the leak, he says it slowed it down. There had been ice on floor of the freezer.

If the icemaker has been turned off for 6 weeks and you still have the leak .

then the leak is NOT from the icemaker.

This design has issues with the defrost drain clogging and freezing over.

The Evaporator drain though is behind the rear interior freezer wall. the rear interior panel will need to be removed the ice in the drain cleared away the drain defrosted with hot water ,the have a defrost drain kit installed .

Here is a link for the kit

The strap on the kit goes around the defrost heater and the screw secures it .

the tube you do not use it is for top mount freezer models.
