I have a GE side by side refrigerator. The refrigerator gets down to 37 degrees then goes up to 54 degrees. The freezer gets to 0 degrees than goes up to 30 degrees.

The erratic behavior sounds like the compressor may be getting hot and shutting off. If you pull the refrigerator out and remove the rear access panel from the bottom of the cabinet, is the condenser coil on the right (facing the rear of the appliance) clean and the fan running?
