Ahhh Thaaank you!
So, we have a GE TBX 18-P fridge that always runned fine until last week. Severaal successive power outaages have caused the fridge to work at the half of the cold thaaat generates normaaaally (at mid (5) as suggested by GE! Now it's at coldest to get an average cold temperature in the freezer and truly warmish cold in the fridge compartment what is this?

The problem seems to come from multiple power flashes successively!The power gone down under 120VAC (perhaps 50VAC or less) where we listened running sound to decrease in these periods!There's after we constated that the fridge became warmer than normal at 5!As I mentioned above, that fridge has an unusual rotary compressor instead a conventional piston one!Thaanks a lot!Andre Another detail: When it works, the thermometer in the freezer section goes to -4 under zero and once the compressor off, the gauge goes to +10 degrees over zero in approximatively 15 min.

I also notice that this fridge has a rotary compressor as in HVAC apparatuses instead a conventional as in piston compressor! Did an electronic box device can control this compressor and reduce the compressor speed causing that problem resulting of these power flashes?

Thank you Barry for your news!The fridge model is: TBX18-PRB - Serial: SF570370 - Manuf.: 09/91 - Refrig.: R12 - Charge: 9.1 OZ - Design Pressures: High Side: 285 PSI / Low Side: 130 PSI - Volts: 115 VAC 60 HZ - Amps: 7.0The fridge colds only the half of the normal performance at 5 recommended by GE at coldest! The freezer doesn't colds enough to keep sensible foods in it as meat. The fridge section is warmer than normal at coldest and (we think) the this could cause damage to dairy foods as milk. On the other hand, all vegetables and other less sensible food as bread and others as soft drinks is kept in. The problem seems to come from multiple power flashes successively! The power gone down under 120VAC (perhaps 50VAC or less) where we listened running sound to decrease in these periods! There's after we constated that the fridge became warmer than normal at 5! As I mentioned above, that fridge has an unusual rotary compressor instead a conventional piston one! Another detail: When it works, the thermometer in the freezer section goes to -4 under zero and once the compressor off, the gauge goes to +10 degrees over zero in approximatively 15 min. But, in the fridge section, I didn't tested it! If you recommend it, I will test it and return the results to you to get your diagnostic!

Hi Andre, it is a standard 120 volt 60 cycle motor.
4 things to check, is the fan at the rear operating?
Is the fan in the freezer operating?
Is the compressor vibrating lightly?
Can you scrape frost off from the freezer wall with your nails?
This is a fairly solid refrigerator. I recognize the style, well built.

So, I have replaced the control assy and all seem to work great at coldest! Presently, I'm setting it A glass of water is in the freezer compartment and it has completely frozen! In that way, I consider it as resolved! All the fans work great and I had dusted it last night!Thanks a lot for your service and attention!André OuelletThe compressor is silent, it's running quiet with no vibrating! A "microscopic" amount or frost in the bottom and walls of the freezer compartment but not a large quantity! Solely in the bottom, I can scratch small amount of frost (or ice)! You have reason, that's a well built fridge!

It is well built I agree Andre, Your going to need to remove the freezer inside rear wall. That vent on the left holds it and 2 clips at the top left and right at the vent up there. Get a look at the coils behind that panel and describe them. Thickly frosted or frosted in one small place.
