I have a Norge 20 lb capacity washer. Suddenly it began to make this buzzing/humming noise and it will not wash or spin and gives off a burning smell. The only thing it will do is fill with more water.

I could not find the model #. The only place was on the "Energy guide" sticker on the front and it is not legible anymore.

Is that machine pretty old? If possible, can you tip the washer back and lean it against the wall and see if the motor will turn by hand?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Quite is filled with water...

Oh, that is a problem. Can you reach under the machine? How old is this machine, any idea?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Adopted it from previous owners of the I would say over 7 years.

Okay, thank you. Can you reach under the machine to turn the motor pulley?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Unfortunately there is no way for me to get under there.

I understand, thank you. The Norge brand has not been active for many years (1990's) so that machine is at least 15 years old. I suspect the motor may be faulty or the timer may be bad. Either way, I would not recommend pursuing repairing that machine, given its age and the fact that the repair is going to be costly. I would recommend replacing that machine. You could get a nice used Whirlpool for less than the repair cost.

Hi Kelly...I was able to empty the barrel, get under the machine and turn the belt around the pulley (one direction only). Was there something more I needed to do? I also got the model is Norge LWL203A.

Thank you.

If the pulley will only turn in one direction, the transmission is likely locked up. You can remove the belt and turn each pulley, the m motor, pump and transmission to determine for certain which it is, though.
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Once I determine which one...what would be the next step?

Well, unless the pump is faulty, repair is going to be pretty expensive. The motor is no longer available and just the transmission is over $250.
