So this oil residue would explain the squealing noise you were getting. Unfortunately this oils ring happens while the tub is doing it's spin cycle. The oil will actually splash out just below the tub where the transmission shaft goes up through the center on the bottom of the tub. The oil comes from the main tub bearing and when it begins spraying out a bit, it means that your main tub seal is leaking water onto the bearing so both the main tub bearing and seal would need to be replaced. Now if you're extremely handy you might be able to replace the part yourself. But it's a lot of work and quite hard so most people need to call a technician to replace this part. The cost of having a technician replace the main bearing and seal on this stack unit would be about $300-350.
