Good evening. I have a Jenn-Air French Door Refrigerator.

Good evening. I have a Jenn-Air French Door Refrigerator. Just noticed the temp for my freezer is at 18 degrees instead of 0 degrees. I have tried adjusting the temp with temp buttons but it keeps going back to 18 degrees. Normally my fridge is set at 40 degrees. I pushed the max cool button and now the freezer seems to go going down but the fridge is climbing in degrees - any idea of what might be going on?
Hello..It is my Pleasure To Be Working With You Today...Sorry your having this problem..If you open the freezer door..Take a Listen to see if the fan is running inside the freezer..Also..Look closely at the Back INSIDE freezer wall for any sign of frost..Post back and let me know what you find ..Thanks Bob

hello bob did you get my response to your question

Ok Great..The fridge cools via the freezer fan..It does not have its own cooling system..The frost on the back wall is a sign of a defrost problem..Which means either the defrost heater ..The defrost Electronic board Which controls the defrost cycle is faulty. The unit would need to be trouble shot to determine which component is faulty..Short term fix would be to manually defrost the unit..Unplug for at least 5 hours..Then plug back in..The fridge will work as normal until the frost builds back up..Which normally takes from 5 -7 days.

can i use the defrost button on the fridge panel, that was a stupid question as I have no defrost button

You can try that first..Most likely if the unit is not working up to temperature then your evaporator coils are well frosted over..Only fix would be a longer term thawing.

what will happen if i leave it running like this until the morning.

sorry did you get my last question - what will happen if i leave it running like this until the morning?

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

freezer has come back down to 0 and the fridge is at 42

If it is left as is, most likely the frost will accumulate as the defrost circuit is not coming on..

freezer has come back down to 0 and the fridge is at 41

Is there still frost on the back wall..? Did you use the defrost option on the panel..?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

still a small bit of frost and no there is no defrost option as I thought there was.

Ok Great..sounds like you have more of a problem with the sealed system..Which means the compressor is not running when it should be..Go around back..Remove the lower panel..Feel the compressor (Black Round Tank)..It should not be hot to the touch..Also make sure the coils are cleaned off of any lint etc.
