i just brought home an affinity. When i got home i opened it and notice to long spring like pieces with a metal spacer or balancer on it. It did not seem to connect to any thing. what is it and should they be attached

yes and no. I bought at an outlet/scratch n dent. Did not see this until i got hoe. does it need to connect to anything or just kinda hangs there. IS IT A CONCERN of the major variety?

It only keeps the lid stable but the machine will work without it as long as the lid switch is intact. It connects to the underside of the lid, accessed by removing the screws (number 62) at the bottom of the front panel (number 42) and sliding the front panel down until it will pull off.

It is attached. I am downloading the service manual but it will be just a few minutes, please.
