My mothers Frigidaire freezer was not keeping things cool.

This answer was rated:

My mother's Frigidaire freezer was not keeping things cool. We ordered and installed a new gasket. Now the door seals at the bottom of the freezer but not at the top. Did we somehow put the door out of level when we took it off the unit to install the gasket?

Did you take the door completely off the hinges?

Customer: replied 4 years ago.
There is a trick to doing this, however you already have done what you have done, did you lay the door on a flat surface to take the screws out of the liner? Meaning that the door handle was not holding the door up when you took it apart?

Customer: replied 4 years ago.
Initially we tried to replace the gasket while the door was attached. When we had difficulty smoothing one side we decided to take the door off and placed on a twin bed. There is no door handle, just an indentation to grab.
Okay since you have it on the unit now.. loosen all the screws for the inner liner, then push the door shut then open it gently, tightening a couple of screws at a time and seeing if it is still sealing, if not reloosen the screws and try again until you get it to stay shut... Let me know how it goes...

Customer: replied 4 years ago.
Where do you want us to start tightening first?
I do the middle of the top, middle of the bottom, then the left and right side middle screw, that should hold it pretty good, don't loosen the screws a lot, we need a little tension while repositioning the door.

Give us a little time to unscrew and try this method.
It is really is the only way to do it... then you can touch up with a hair dryer for the remainder...

Customer: replied 4 years ago.
Now we are getting a better seal everywhere except the top edge on the opening side and the top 2/3 of door opening edge. :-(
Now you use a hair dryer and possibly need to do some shimming, I normally do not like to shim, also see if pushing on different corners of the cabinet itself helps it seal better, if the cabinet is cantered a little it can also cause this problem..

All I ask of you is to please rate me with one of the top 3 ratings. If there is anything else I can help you with today just let me know. I'm happy to rate you well. You have take much time with me.

What does the screw on the bottom of the door do? The instructions say that if the gasket does not seal, adjust the screw on the bottom edge of the door. If the door does not seal on the top then loosen. If the door does not seal on the bottom then tighten. What is being loosened or tightened?
The instructions are general, they would not pertain to your model, some units have adjustment screws to move the hinges in and out, that would have made life a little easier, however I think you are on the right track now...

We removed the *new* gasket, cleaned and replaced the old one according to your instructions. We had to shim the outer door seal to keep the food from melting.... I think this is a bigger problem than any of us can solve online. At least the food is safe. Thanks for your help and persistence with this untimely and quite vexing problem.
Your welcome.
