I have a SUB ZERO 424. (Older, not under warranty) Will not cool below 60+/- degrees. Runs a few hours - stops and "service" light blinks. The coils are very clean! All fans are working! What to do next?

repairguy :

Hello my name isXXXXX will assist you today

repairguy :

you need to remove the panel that covers the fans, that will give you access to the evaporator coil, Once you see that coil , I need to know what kind of frost pattern you see on it, quarter of the way, half way, totally covered. Also you can check to see if compressor is hot, do you hear it running ?

Customer:

fans are at back of unit which is built in! No easy access! Compressor seams to be running. Air coming out at bottom of unit is worm but not hot. are you familiar with this unit?

repairguy :

yes, I know the fans are in the back, but so are the evaporators

repairguy :

It sounds as though you have lost freon somewhere and only cooling part way

repairguy :

if you take a look at the evaporator i can confirm this

Customer:

kinda what I figured!

repairguy :

Unfortunately they are never cheap units to repair either.

Customer:

can not see evaporator without taking interior back panels out.

repairguy :

i know sorry about that, but without calling out service it is really about the only way to tell if we are running low on freon or not

Customer:

seems service is only way to solve. Don't want to ruin good wine!!

Customer:

Thanks Rick

repairguy :

Sorry I could not get you a better outcome.
