I am needing to replace the glass cooktop & 2 elements on a Kitchenaide downdraft cooktop. I have located the parts (not purchased yet), but have never attempted this and would like to know if anyone has experience with it and can help me through the repair? It is model # XXXXX thank you
Hello, and thank you for using this service. I'll be helping you with your problem today.

So there is quite a bit that will need to be done in order to remove and replace these parts. The first part is completely un-installing the cooktop and setting it down on a towel on the floor or a counter top. That means the vent will need to be disconnected and the circuit breaker shut off. Disconnect the power cord from the junction box and remove the brackets coming from the bottom around the sides holding the cooktop to the countertop. Sometimes installers will silicone the edges above the countertop all the way around so if that is the case, use a razor blade and slide it into the seam to cut all the silicone out around the glass top. Finally you should be able to push the glass top up and out.

Now once you have the unit un-installed, set it on a towel and remove all the screws around the border of the unit and the glass top will pull up and off. Now you can replace the glass top and the elements inside. Do make sure you note the position of the elements you're removing before you remove them because they need to go back exactly as they were installed so that they center the circles on the glass top when everything is re-installed.
