we are getting a new stove [don't know brand yet], and are putting it where our old stove is...[my wife's cousin is giving it to us...I haven't seen it yet]...I'm wondering if the new stove should fit where old one other words, are household stoves pretty much the same dimensions, or is there possibly going to be a problem exchanging stoves?

okay. If this is just a slide in range they are all standard size unless it is a special range with extra burners or a top of the line range like a Viking or Daycar. those can be wider but other than that they are standard size.
A standard range is 30 inches wide by 26 inches deep
