I have a whirlpool design 2000 washing machine that stopped its cycle with laundry in it and started buzzing. I spun the motor with a crescent wrench its spins fairly smoothly one way and a litlle hard the other way.Answer Summary
Hi I,m John I will help you with the washer not washing or spinning .Does the hum come from the motor or the timer ? Send me the model number you will find it under the lid .It sounds like a bad motor , check the red wire at the motor connection , sometimes that wire will have a bad connection and cause the motor to hum like that .The motor will cost you around $190 00 ,Its not difficult to replace its held in place by two metal clamps to the transmission
