My whirlpool dishwasher (Whirlpool Gold, model 980) wont start

This answer was rated:

My whirlpool dishwasher (Whirlpool Gold, model 980) won't start - the "delay timer" light is blinking, then when I press cancel, it (sometimes) cycles through the cancel/drain, but then the light comes on again.

I've tried pressing the timer then a cycle, and other button combinations, but nothing works (or sometimes the "controls locked" light starts blinking, then goes off when I press "cancel"). Have also unplugged it and restarted the machine numerous times.

Is there a quick fix? If not, do I need a new control panel, and is that something I could install myself? (I'm not an electrician, but am somewhat handy.)

Hello, Thank you for using this service, I will be helping you with your problem today

Good morning, can you try these ?

To Turn off the Lock:

Press and hold Air Dry for 4 seconds. The LED turns off

also try this.

To cancel the delay and begin cycle immediately, press Delay Hours until all delay hours LEDs

are off.

Customer: replied 4 years ago.

Tried both those numerous times, but just did so again, and here is what happened (same as before):

- closed door, and 4-hour "delay" light was on

- pressed it and the "controls locked" light came on

- pressed "air dry" for 4 seconds and "controls locked" started blinking, and "delay" light is blinking now too

- pressed "cancel," and "controls locked" light went off, now "cancel" light is blinking and "delay" light is still blinking

I read the manual previously, and had tried what it said to do to cancel the delay setting and to unlock the controls (same as what you said), and it hasn't worked.

okay so this means the main control board has failed unfortunately, you will need to order and replace it to fix the issue. heres a link to order it. its located inside the door in the control panel. hope this helps, thanks, Bryan
