I have a Sears Chest freezer that is approximately 9 years old. It is model number 11911. The inside of the freezer started to lose cooling and contents started to thaw. The outside walls of the freezer were quite warm. Can you give me suggestions on what I need to do?

gst85 :

good morning.can you hear the compressor running?

gst85 :

and about how long ago did you start to have this problem?

Customer:

yes,

Just noticed it last night

gst85 :

ok did you have a power outage in your area that may have led to this problem?

gst85 :

can you double check the model number please.

Customer:

no, not recently.

Model number 253.13911102 and serial number WB41230884

gst85 :

thanks.there is a comparment at the rear of your freezer so that you can access your compressor.remove the access panel if you may.

gst85 :

take your time please.

gst85 :

here is a diagram that will help you.

gst85 :

are you still with me?

Customer:

done. the access panel is on the side

gst85 :

ok great.are you able to access the compressor?

Customer:

yes

gst85 :

fell of the compressor is warm or hot to touch?

gst85 :

feel

Customer:

It is cool now because I turned it off last night.

gst85 :

oh i see ok,can you plug it back in then tell me if it makes a click sound?

Customer:

I turned it on and it started running but didn't make a click sound

gst85 :

ok can you feel if the condensor is getting warm all around?

gst85 :

its going to be mounted on the back.

Customer:

not yet. It is still cool.

gst85 :

the compressor is slightly humming,correct?

Customer:

yes. the copper pipe is getting warm

gst85 :

the internal oil lines that are inside the freezer are most likely blocked up.so what needs to be done is called a bypass so eliminate them then recharged with freon to fix your problem.

gst85 :

can you now touch the compressor and feel if its getting hot?

gst85 :

or just warm?

Customer:

The compressor is starting to get warm, not hot

gst85 :

ok now open the freezer tell me if you can feel the walls getting cold?

Customer:

The top of the walls are getting cold.

gst85 :

so it seems that it is cooling just not enough to freezer your items.so recharg

ing the system will take care of your problem.since it has never been serviced in the past.

Customer:

no, it has never been serviced since we bought it.

Customer:

I will contact a service personnel to recharge the system.

Thanks.
