Customer Question

I have a Whirlpool side by side refridgerator/freezer. I have had it for approximately 2 years now. About every couple of months our ice maker gets all jammed up and the ice freezes in the chute. I then have to empty out all of the ice and get my hair dryer out to try to melt it enough to get the ice bin off of the door the then remove all of the ice.
Is there anything to remedy this problem? It is a time consuming pain to deal with. Please advise.
Thank you

Thank you for using Just Answer. I will be glad to assist you in your answer. Think about safety when doing repairs, electric, water, gas, ect.

Yes, there are several steps to make things better. The ice bin has to be dumped into a bowl and rinsed out with hot water complete to clear all ice until parts move freely. Towel dry the bin, and poor ice back in, and place back into door. This has to be done every 2 weeks for crushed ice user, and every month for cube ice users. You can pop off the front dispenser panel, and seal where the wires go up into the door with caulking. That is has been the fix for years. The dispenser cover can be removed by looking under the panel, and use a flat blade in the slots. You will see the wire harness hole that needs sealed after it is moved out of the way.
